One Flesh

Where are you investing your time and energy? Many people will say work. Some will say play but all can say something. Life is short and we have to get it all in right? What if you, just this next week, decided for one week you were going to devote your time to what matters most in the world that we live in; which is your family. Today we battle so many things and it is difficult for us to handle too many things at once so we must choose what gets the attention it needs and what must suffer. We often take for granted our family because we feel that they will always be there and we can disappoint them with without major consequences. After all, someone has to be disappointed right? Let me point out something. The bible says that when a man and wife are married, they become one flesh. That means they are one person! One unit that functions together to get things accomplished throughout the rest of their lives. We are fooled to think that we can function in life when one is wounded. We are fooled to think we can operate when one is hurting. Allison and I can function only because of two things:
1. WE love our Lord and are on mission for Him together.
2. We exist together in everything. We are a unit that (in everything) works toward one goal. I cannot do this without her nor can she without me. Neither are independent or strong without the other. We are one flesh.
When you are down about your marriage, remember that you are one flesh and you cannot do this without the other so start figuring out how (brace yourself) YOU can change to improve your marriage.
We are in a battle together and if she is wounded I want to mend her wounds so that we can continue. Without her I am not whole. She may make me angry at times and I her as well, but in the end she is my “best friend”.

The Armor

We have been speaking alot on the battle that we are all in. The battle between flesh and spirit is a struggle we all face daily. Ephesians chapter 6 refers to this battle and tells us how to stand in battle. You have to put on the armor. Every morning I put on the armor to prepare me for the battle of the day. I first put on the “ belt of Truth”. This is the time when I remind myself that the world lies. I am a failure, we lose, my family will never be complete, I can’t shake this sin and others. The truth is I am fearfully and wonderfully made and I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Next is the “breastplate of righteousness”. I confess sins that are in my life and repent. Next is the “sandals of readiness for the Gospel”. I ask God to show me someone who needs the gospel in there lives and how can I minister to them. Once that person comes to mind I make a point to contact them that day. I then put on the “shield of Faith”. The shield of faith is simply this: God is who He says He is and He does what He says He will do. I have nothing to fear no matter what comes my way. Then it is the “helmet of salvation”. I am saved and know without a doubt that I have a personal relationship with the living God, Jesus Christ. He walks with me and talk to me and I serve Him with no hesitation. He saved my life. Knowing this is crucial in the armor. Do you have that kind of relationship with Him? Finally we have our weapon and we can only defend against Satan and not attack him without it. I want to hurt him! The “sword of the Word of God”. I go to my bible and read and listen to what God has to say to me. My friends, unless you have to whole armor of God on in battle you will be defeated.
